Seattle Euskal Etxea Board Meeting Minutes October 16, 2005
Meeting called to order, 1:30PM
Present: Toni Sabarots John Etulain Geoff Bates Dan Pradere (on phone) PJ Ross Amaia M Niki Harris Danielle Bock
- Overview of board members, procedures & choosing notetaker GB will take notes. Board terms are two years. We follow Roberts Rules. A committee looked at by-laws and made changes, but the board did not approve them. TS: this will be the last meeting I will facilitate Geoff and Amaia are on board. Amaia has come back, and Geoff has agreed to be on board.
Board members are: Dan P has being doing membership and treasurer. Geoff will do the membership piece from now on. PJ Danielle Bock Mary Lou Michelena (is in Chicago this weekend) Christina Penland Toni Sabarots
- Dan Pradere- Financial Report
We have $1441.46 in the bank. We owe $454.50 to Geoff and Amaia for NABO meeting in Winnemucca. We owe approximately $180 for insurance. Insurance is about $220 a year. Seattle server charges $30 a month, and we own them $320. Future expenses include upcoming events: next NABO meeting in Feb. We have 25 paid membership for the year. Membership is January to January. TS: We did not get grant. That is a big deal
So, after all bills we have $486.00.
PJ: Motion to put membership drive in next letter. GB: second. Motion carried. TS: how much does it cost to do the mailing? About $250 a newsletter. TS: Web site: will get cheaper when we switch to new site. Toni will talk to Eric about this. Eric, who redid the website, also needs to be paid.
DP will cancel insurance and look into event only insurance.
DP comments: 1. We should not spend like we have the grant. 2. We need predictability on the Summer picnic. We owe $80 to Grace for Mus tournament. DP will pay.
- Events
Fall Film Night (choose date & film (choices are: Lauaxeta – To the four winds�, Pelota Vasco, or Tasio-have further information at: http://www.basqueed.org/BasqueFilmSeries.htm ) Please check out www.central-cinema.com. Kevin, the owner, can do a Sunday night in November. He can also have his cook/chef make Basque food!!!!
TS is happy to take lead on this. Kevin at Central Cinema has many Sundays and Wednesday s open. They can do dinner there. He said his cooks would cook Basque food. Tasio would have to come from UNR, Philip from San Francisco can burn Lauaxeta to the Four Winds.
GB: Motion to Show Tasio, and acquire Lauaxeta and Americano as backups. Discussion: are we going to have to lay out a bunch of money? TS: No we should not have to put out money. Motion carries. November 20th is the date, at Kevin’s cinema. TS will talk to him. TS asks for suggestions on food.
Basque Days TS: Original idea was: morning Euskera, then dance, and then lunch and Mus. Amaia will do Euskera, dance will be Jean and Nikki. Last time we paid instructors. With Boga: you can do the computer part at your house, and you only need to come together for the conversation piece. TS: I will look into St. Teresa as a space. JE: does Ray Aspiri have a space? Who has the Boga CD’s? AM: I will research the CD issue with Phillipe in San Francisco. AM will start Euskera in her home. TS will check with Hernandez on Capoiera place on Capitol Hill for dance. What day of week? Depends on location.
Future Potluck
Dec 3rd is Olentzaro Party in Vancouver. So calendar will be Dec 16th for Tango event, with Board meeting before. TS will ask Michelle about a good date for a January potluck. Danielle, March 4th potluck.
Spring Dinner TS: spoke with Jill Adalpe of the Oinkari’s and they are NOT coming to Folklife this year ‘06, but hope to the following. TS: can we ask for Mary Lou and Christina to take the lead? Historically it has been at Masonic Temple. The Lake City Place is 800 for 8 hours & does not have a commercial stove.
Board decides: Masonic Temple again TS will check into putting deposit. April 22th is target date with 29th as back up. Spring dinner committee: Danielle will be on committee and will contact Mary Lou and Christina about joining her.
Summer Picnic First week in August. Agreed to start rotation of summer picnic this year in Central Washington. Committee to look into location is TS, PJ, DP.
- Amaia- NABO meeting report
Amaia passes out NABO September 2005 meeting minutes for review. NABO discussion: larger clubs would like to have more votes than small clubs, and NABO has asked clubs to discuss this possibility and bring back opinion. JP: Motion for all clubs to have 2 delegates and 2 votes each. Seconded. This would give voice to all clubs. Motion carries.
NABO is also requesting “databaseâ€? info from each club. Geoff and Dan will work on this.
- Next NABO meeting.
Discussion: right now we do not have money to send people to next NABO meeting. Need to figure out how to raise funds.
Motion: Euskera class charges can be applied to help send someone to San Fran for Euskera event, otherwise further fundraising discussion at next meeting. Discussion. Fundraising is a larger discussion. Motion passed.
